This is Halloween

Tomorrow is Halloween, at least in some places around the world. Well, October 31st may be the day that people around some countries trick or treat (which I’ve done once and I guarantee it was pretty amazing – got tons of candies), but not all over the world. However, it’s known by all of us that this is the day to get your costumes out of the closet or make new ones. I had one costume party and will have another on the next days, and I am wearing my Cheshire Cat costume!

IMG_2228
I drew this costume and asked for a sewer’s help. It’s quite fantastic, I really love it. This is a pic from last year, still without the smile makeup (my hair is almost twice as long, now).

But, well, if you have a costume party, I imagine that you have already chose your clothing… So it would not make sense to suggest it. But maybe, if you don’t want to dress up for the common things of the day, you could wear Halloween inspired lingerie! Seems like a good idea for me, and I already know I’m about to wear a purple set I own and love. But here are some ideas for you to get spooky, sexy or just to feel funny – after all, fun is what Halloween night is all about!

KissKill Karlie bra. Meow!
KissKill Karlie set. Meow!

The Karlie set, by KissKill Lingerie, would be perfect for a Catwoman costume (or just a fierce look under your clothing). It looks like leather, but it’s made of stretch coated jersey, which may be the perfect combination between look and comfort. I’ve been in love with this set for quite a while, to be honest, so I had to put it on the list!

When I came across this piece of art, available at Journelle, I couldn’t help but think it could be part of a sweet and sassy Tinker Bell costume, even if it’s only for the boudoir. I like Tink’s personality as much as I like this undergarment, because they are both unique. I have dressed as her when I was a child, and it’s always a nice option for those who have no idea what to put on a costume party – or a bra!

Playful Promises Heart Breaker set in purple. I am heartbroken that this isn't in my drawer.
Playful Promises Heart Breaker set in purple. I am heartbroken by the fact that this isn’t in my drawer.

Everytime I decided to dress as a witch, when young, my costume was either purple or orange, always combined with black. And though my understanding of what a witch is changed from Snow White’s bad witch to Morgan le Fay -due to my early Mists of Avlon passion- Halloween’s witches are always purple/orange with black and have a pointy hat. So, this Playful Promises set may have a heartbreaking spell, or it will just allow you to use the power of your seduction – but it certainly fits for the night!

Not Ariel. Made by Niki's string playsuit is a beauty under or over the seas!
Not Ariel. Made by Niki’s string playsuit is a beauty under or over the sea.

Mermaids may be cute when we are talking about Ariel (and quite stupid, too… why would she trade her amazing voice and life on the sea to chase a man that she doesn’t even know?), but they have not always been portrayed like that. Actually, mermaids were supposed to be evil creatures that seduced poor sailors to their death, always beautiful and mean. This is pretty fierce, right? And this Made by Niki string playsuit (available at Pleasurements) comes in jade and black, creating a mysterious under the sea aura that will surely be the reason why the person that shares the night with you will fall into your enchantment.

I wish you all an amazing Halloween, with lot’s of fun and -possibly- candy!

What are you dressing up as, this year?

UK Lingerie Trip

Now that I’ve been in London for almost a week, I have plenty of lingerie-related things to share. Didn’t have enough time to visit everything I wanted to, but I guess I’ll have to leave it for the next time. Anyway, I’ve been doing lots of lovely things and visiting amazing places. It’s the 4th time I am in London and I can tell you it’s the best time ever!

Yesterday I was on Oxford St., shopping for clothes (as I’ve said before, Brazil is a pretty expensive place to shop) and, as I stopped by Miss Selfridge/Topshop, I grabbed some panties (knickers! we are in England!) because they looked really pretty and I know they make comfortable things. It’s very cheap (9 pounds for 3 panties!) and I really love the ones I chose.

Image
Three for 9 pounds on these cuties? Totally worth it.

Then, as it was a beautiful sunny day -and I should add that the weather here is wonderful, totally different from the common english weather-, I walked to the Marble Arch to get to Paolita/Kiss me Deadly boutique. It’s a small, lovely place! The lady was very helpful, I tried on some sizes of the Van Doren bralet and ended up with the medium one. It’s probably the post comfortable bra ever, but I’ll be reviewing that later.

Along with that, I got this amazing (truly, truly amazing) suspender belt which I am almost sure is from the Van Doren collection as well, but it has lace on the front. And it has 6 straps, which is so much better than 4! The panties were a little too big on the waist, as they were high-waisted. It happens with every high-waisted one… Anyway, I was very happy with my bralet and suspender belt!

This is the perfect suspender belt for everyday wear. And bra, too!

That was the end of a day, which had a few more stuff like some amazing pieces of clothing, dinner with friends and a flash meeting with Caro, the Lingerie Lesbian – but I’m pretty sure I’ll be seeing her in Leicester next week!

Today, when the sun was already up on the sky, I woke up to a day in Notting Hill. They had this super cool street market with plenty of vintage stuff, collectibles, pretty dresses, foods, china… I bought a lot of nice things like an old camera for my dad’s collection, a polka dotted dress and a 3-plates vintage cake stand that looks like it came from Alice in Wonderland.

Just in Portobello Road, I could find What Katie Did boutique, full of faux vintage things and feathers. The women on the store looked like pin up girls, which was beautiful. I didn’t stay there for too long, to be honest, because although I really love the vintage aesthetic, I am not bold enough to spend my money on a set for me, yet. Specially because 1 pound turns out to be almost 4 reais (which is the brazilian currency, if you are not aware). But I needed hosiery for my new suspender belts, and they were on a really good price. Me and the ladies spent some minutes discussing sizing and wether I’d be better with fully nylon stockings or not. I ended up choosing not to take the nylon stockings because I was told that me, as a beginner, would get along better with a little elastane. No problem, I got two of them! They feel so good in my legs, really!

And then, to finish this rather long post, I went to Playful Promises. And it was the nicest time ever! The lady on the store and I talked a lot and we both agreed that the Bond corset looked fabulous on me, so I decided that I had to take it. I tried on the Ghost collection as well, but nothing quite fitted me, sad (or maybe happy, if you take the view from my bank account). I took two panties-on-a-tin as well, because they were so cute! The store is really lovely and they carry plenty of things, even though is a small space. They didn’t have ruffled panties in my size, though, just some bright pink ones I didn’t like that much. I hope they have, next time!

I am very satisfied with my corset, so far. I am still leraning how to lace myself, but I am sure it will be fun.

Next post will probably be in Leicester, so I will be telling all about the Bra Making course I have enrolled into!

Should I get a corset?

CORSET1

I don’t own any corsets.

As I have a very small waist, I never thought about making it even smaller. Having worked as a model for some years, I thought I should look as flat as possible, and when you make your waist smaller, you make your hips bigger (in comparison with the waist, of course, but visually it is bigger). Models can’t have big hips, it’s the first thing they will measure.

Anyway, I don’t spend time trying to grow in a modeling career, anymore, since I am taking my life to another direction (and, if you follow me on twitter, you can see I spend a lot of time talking about sweets, fashion workers don’t usually eat that much). I am way happier without having to worry about my figure, just loving my body the way it is. But this weekend I passed through a corset store.

I was taking my brother to this rock and roll themed shopping area so that he could see some t-shirts, and there was this store. Not very big and not very pretty, but they sold some pre-made corsets, so I got in to try two. They did fit me very well and I loved the way my body looked. So I decided I should get a corset. I didn’t buy any from the store for 2 main reasons: 1- I didn’t know how they were made or anyone who bought from them, so I could not know if they were worth the price (about $125. It might sound cheap, but if they are not good quality, it can turn out to be very expensive). 2- I didn’t liked any. All of them had zippers on the front and I didn’t like the cleavages. So I decided to say ‘thank you’ and try to find another corset.

But I am a student. With low budget. So how could I find a nice corset without having to spend an enormous amount of money? Because you see, I really wish I could afford a nice corset by Madame Sher, but I’m not very used to the shape or using it all the time, so it wouldn’t make sense for me to spend all the money I could save on a perfect corset. I need to get a pre-made, somewhat cheap, beautiful corset. Reading and searching a little (this article by Treacle helped me a lot!), I found some options.

Playful Promises

corset2
Dominique corset, £75.

The Dominique corset seems to me like the best option. I am looking for something classic but beautiful, that can be work over black jeans or a pencil skirt. Of course it would be used as underwear as well, but I would rather have something that could be used both ways. One thing I like about Playful Promises is that they have a store, and I can probably try it on instead of having it delivered. For a first-time buyer, it is very important. And they have options with vintage stitch, which I love, too.

True Corset

Although True Corsets don’t have a store I could enter and see how I look before buying the piece, they have a nice range of classic black corsets and a very fast shipping, besides a nice return policy, which seems as good as store fitting. I loved the cleavage options and the prices are really good, as well. I just hope I learn how to lace myself before buying one… I gotta work on this, it can’t be too hard, right?

What katie Did

Storm corset, £179.50

Very, very classic. I love the black options, but you can order in a nice range of different colors, so they have some options. And the different shapes are very appealing to me. The only thing that doesn’t seem good is how they say that the corsets are made to fit C-cups and above, since I am not, in any way, full busted. I will have to consider this (and the price, which is a little higher thean the others, but not very expensive). However, I loved them.

So, what do you think? Do you own any corsets? Do you like the shape of the waist in these pieces?

Sketching: Inspiration

I study Industrial and Fashion Design in college. And although I’m still on the very beginning of it (it’s been only a year), I already have some classes on draping -which is, if you don’t know, the mechanisms to build a piece of clothing directly on a mannequin’s body-.

The semester is nearly ending, so it comes the time for the final works. And, for this class’ work, I must create an outfit based on a song. Thinking how I could bring the ideia the closest possible to lingerie, I chose a song about a showgirl.

SKETCH1

I’ve loved the “Costello Music” album for quite a while, and the pin-up illustrations, by Sam Hadley, were responsible for the first time I fell in love for the vintage aesthetic. So, ok, it was the perfect song and the perfect excuse to do lingerie-inspired clothing. I had to check out for pictures related to the sensations this song causes on me, which would be some teasing, something like a cute stripper, very sassy and naughty but with a bit of a fake innocence.

I really like the music video for this song, as well, because it’s full of girls and inspirations. And one of them, that passes very quickly through the camera sometimes, was the starting point for my search for styles. Here are some pictures I found that illustrated perfectly what I wanted.

Playful Promises has this "frilly knickers", which is a style I love.

So, as I had to create things with the techniques taught in class, I chose a simple corset (probably with no structure, since I don’t know how to do it. But if I find out in a few weeks, maybe…) and a mini mini skirt. I wish I could make a short, but it wasn’t part of the things we learnt, so i had to choose the skirt. And frills. I love frills, they seem easy to make (or maybe buy, if I find in the colors I want) and apply in the skirt and corset.

I found this picture on tumblr, don't know the source. But the colors are exactly what I wanted.

Angela Friedman's Ruffled panties in silk are absolutely lovely. I want this aesthetic and this much frills!

After a lot of doo doo doo, doo doo doo of the song in my head, plenty of sketching and asking friends about how do they think it looks, I finally came to a final drawing. At least that’s what I think so, I still have a few weeks so I can change it if I feel like doing it. But, for now, I like it, and proudly present to you my Chelsea Dagger lingerie-inspired final work’s sketch!

I'm still learning how to work with watercolor, but I like it a lot!

So… what do you think!? I would love to hear feedback!

The London List

Each week that passes I get more and more excited to travel to England. I could just throw every single college paper up in the air and pack my bags to catch a plane tomorrow. And buy lingerie. Since I am kind of a serious person (I’m not, but can we pretend that I am, just for a second? Thank you.), I am working hard on college, and in the spare time I dream about english-speaking-saleswomen and go around some websites to see what I like.

Image
Except I’m not about to buy these brands, this is what I was kind of dreaming of.

So, I thought I could make another small wishlist with some items I found on those websites and would fit me and my drawer perfectly!

Stella McCartney

I really didn't think I could buy this. But now is the time.
I really didn’t think I could buy this. But now is the time.

Stella McCartney is a brand that I admittedly like for how it seems to make classic pieces very luxuriously. They are definitely on the classic feminine aesthetic, something that personally attracts me a lot (although I admire very much all the brands that try to break this stereotype). Anyway, I’ve been very much into their Clara Whispering Chemise, which is a little expensive (£182) but luckily I have quite enough money to get one for my drawer! I have the feeling that I will leave Selfridges with quite a lot of shopping bags…

Mimi Holliday

Just take a look at that lace. And the happy face!

Although I still have to know if Mimi Holliday is sold anywhere else other than Selfridges, I found some options on their website. And some of them -my favorite- have this amazing lace which is shown on the picture. I have been admiring the Bisou Bisou set (with briefs) and I think it fits my taste very well. A touch of glamour on a common day, maybe? I like the idea.

Lascivious

Not only the seams, but look at the little heart! I love these details.

I recently discovered Lascivious, but I’ve been really amazed by their designs. Although I’d love to go on a shopping spree and empty my wallet in one of their stockists, I decided to focus and realized that what I really want (and need, actually) is their seamed stockings. They are seamed in the back -very pin-up!- and fit my budget! Definitely on my list.

Playful Promises

Frills and bows, red lips and funny faces! Oh, how I adore it!
Frills and bows, red lips and funny faces! Oh, how I adore it!

I just adore this brand. Absolutely one of my favorites – and I can’t wait to visit their boutique and buy some things, since their price is really reasonable and I can get a few items. Maybe two or three panties. Maybe the Ghost bodysuit I’ve been wanting for a while. This is the kind of store I might spend a long, long time just looking at every detail and having small attacks because I love everything.

So, how do you feel about my to-do list so far? Any other suggestions?

If you know/run/work at a lingerie boutique based in London or Leicester, please contact me via comment or contacttheunder@gmail.com so I can put your store in my destination list! 🙂
